Montessori Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a unique approach to religious education that focuses on children's spiritual development. This method, inspired by Maria Montessori's principles and developed by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi, aims to create a sacred space called the "Atrium" where children can encounter God and deepen their relationship with Him.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is divided into three levels, each tailored to children's developmental stages and religious needs. Currently, Levels I and II are available to St. Jerome Academy students.
Throughout all three levels, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd emphasizes the importance of silence, contemplation, and independent discovery. The Atrium is a place where children can experience God's presence and develop a personal relationship with Him.
The role of the catechist is to guide and support the children's religious journey while respecting their pace and learning style. By providing a nurturing environment and age-appropriate materials, the Montessori Catechesis of the Good Shepherd helps children grow in their faith and develop a lasting love for God and His Church.
